Refractories Used in Glass Tank Furnace

Glass tank furnace is equipment used for glass melting production. When choosing refractories used in glass tank furnace, these factors such as furnace types, application parts, damage systems, glass categories, colors and so on should be considered. Glass melting tank furnace refractory materials should have excellent molten glass and gases corrosion resistance. Besides, they should also have enough refractoriness under load temperature and thermal impact resistance.

Refractories Used in Glass Tank Furnace

Fused Zirconia Corundum Bricks

Fused zirconia corundum bricks are also known as fused AZS bricks. Fused AZS bricks have high glass chemical corrosion resistance and very little pollution to glass liquid.

Fused AZS Bricks

AZS-33 bricks is not prone to form union or bubble in smelted glass, so it is suited to melting tank top structure, working tank sidewall and surface paving bricks, charging channels and so on.

AZS-36 is standard oxidizing fused zirconia corundum brick, it has high glass liquid corrosion level of resistance and low contamination, so it is suited to parts where contact with glass liquid directly, such as melting tank sidewall bricks, bottom surface bricks, recharging notch and so on.

AZS-41 is highest class fused zirconia corundum refractory bricks. It has the best molten glass corrosion amount of resistance and the lowest glass contamination. It is well used for glass furnace locations where have highest corrosion level, such as joined melting furnace, tank furnace neck, charging notch corner, weir, bubbling bricks, etc.

Fused Corundum Bricks

Fused corundum bricks have high rigidity, good scouring level of resistance, good abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance.

Fused α-Al2O3 bricks, is principally used in glass tank furnaces, it is applied to the borosilicate glass and opal glass development. But is hot temperature corrosion resistance is unpleasant, so in some borosilicate glass furnaces, fused quartz bricks are adopted. But joined corundum bricks won't leave filth for glass liquid, below 1350℃, it has good glass liquid corrosion resistance and excellent abrasion resistance, so fused corundum bricks are application for clarification part, cooling down part, working tank and so on.

β-Al2O3 bricks has lower mechanical durability and large volume shrinking, so it is merely for application on upper structure where only has SiO2 dust corrosion, for instance, working tank container upper structure, combustion nozzle adjacent breast wall, interface nozzle and suspension wall structure, etc. β-Al2O3 bricks avoid react with volatile alkalinity metal oxides, so there won't form molten contaminants.

Silica Bricks

Silica bricks also belongs to acid refractory bricks, they have strong acidic slag or molten liquid corrosion level of resistance, as well as high temperature performance. For example, refractoriness is about 1690~1730?, refractoriness under load starting temperature is about 1640~1680℃, volume expansion rate is relatively large. At 1450℃, the total volume growth is favorable for the structural strength and air-tightness of the brickwork. Therefore silica bricks are main refractory bricks for glass furnace construction, they may be broadly used in main posture, breast wall, regenerator top and so on.

Magnesia refractory

Glass furnace regenerator checkerwork top layer usually adopts high grade magnesia bricks, higher layers usually adopts middle section grade magnesite bricks, midsection layers usually used immediate bonded magnesite chrome refractory bricks, lower layers adopts low porosity fireclay bricks. Corrosion resistance and creep level of resistance are important performances of checkerwork, so high chastity, low iron content, low porosity and large source raw material should be adopted for magnesia bricks production.

Magnesia Bricks for Glass Furnace

Once petrol coke can be used as fuel, glass melting furnace refractory is not hard to be corroded, really at high level purity magnesia alumina spinel bricks which have better corrosion amount of resistance and better oxidization-reduction atmosphere change adaption can be adopted. High purity magnesia alumina spinel bricks also have good creep level of resistance and alkali vapor corrosion resistance, so it can even be utilized in pure oxygen burning glass furnaces.

Glass furnace fire clay bricks

Fire clay bricks belong to acidic refractory products, it has certain corrosion resistance from acid corrosion, but lower alkali corrosion resistance. As a result, fire clay brick is well suited for building acidic glass furnace.

Glass Furnace Fire Clay Bricks

Glass melting furnace fire clay bricks are usually fire clay blocks with at least 50kg unit weight. In regenerator lower part driver arch and lower part check bricks, power materials and volatiles corrosion is not severe, temperature is also relatively low, but load is large, so fireclay blocks used here should have enough mechanised strength, they can contain some ratio of SiO2 and Fe2O3. But for high temperature parts, where requires high refractoriness of fireclay blocks, impurities content should be low.

Insulation refractory materials

To save energy, heat preservation constructions are more plus more commonly used in glass tank furnaces, such as fireclay insulating bricks, silica insulation bricks, diatomite bricks, insulation castable, insulating ramming mass, ceramic fibre refractory, and so forth.
