What is the Difference between Refractory Repair Material and Refractory Spray Coating?
Refractory spray coatings and refractory repair materials are both of the unshaped refractories. Compared with refractory castables, they differ greatly in construction methods. Both refractory materials belong to the unshaped refractory materials with fast construction progress and short furnace repair time.
Refractory Repair Material
Refractory repair materials are refractory materials used to repair furnaces and thermal equipment. Refractory repair materials are classified according to usage. There are many varieties of refractory repair materials, including refractory spray coating material, melt injection spray supplementary material, refractory cast supplementary material, refractory pressure feed material, refractory pump injection material, and refractory grouting material. The construction methods of refractory repair materials include spraying, feeding, pressing, pumping, or grouting. Among them, there are many spraying methods for refractory repair materials, which is not only easy to use and construction, but also saves costs. Finally, the service life of the kiln lining is increased.

Refractory Spray Coating
Refractory spray coating is sprayed onto the sprayed surface with a spray gun. Spraying is carried out by spraying a machine or spray gun, which is a spraying technology in furnace building and repairing the furnace. The refractory coating can obtain sufficient speed in the pipeline by means of compressed air or mechanical pressure. By spraying the nozzle onto the surface to be sprayed, a firm spray coating can be formed. Refractory spray coating is divided into wet methods, dry method, and flame method.
Wet spraying is sprayed onto the sprayed surface by adding water or liquid binder to the refractory spray coating. According to the order and dosage of adding water or liquid binder, it is divided into four spraying methods: mud method, wet method, semi-dry method, and pseudo-dry method.
- If the two methods are mixed, it is a mixed method.
- The mortar method is to mix the refractory mixture into the mud and then spray. Mainly used for thermal spraying repair lining.
- The wet method is to mix the refractory mixture into pumped mud and then spray it.
- In the semi-dry method, the refractory mixture is first added with a small amount of water to stir and moisten it evenly, then it is delivered to the nozzle, and then the remaining water is added for spraying.
- Dry spraying is to spray the mixed refractory spray coating directly onto the surface to be sprayed through the nozzle. Mainly used for furnace repair.
- Flame spraying is to use oxygen to transport the mixed refractory spray coating to the nozzle and spray it together with the combustible gas. The flammable gas burns and the material travels in the flame and melts into a plastic state and hits the sprayed surface. This method is used for hot spray repairing the furnace lining, which has less damage to the original lining, the sprayed layer is easy to sinter, and has a long service life, but the cost is higher.
In summary, refractory spray coating and refractory repair materials are common, but the construction method is different. The key technologies of refractory spray coating and refractory repair materials are adhesion, adhesion, strength, and sinterability.
